  • Paddington Works

Designed in close collaboration with the client, Paddington Works is a 15,000 sqft co-working and event space, set across the ground and first floor of a mixed use development in the Paddington Basin, London.

The scheme comprises private studios, open co-working areas, meeting rooms, seminar space and an auditorium for a wide range of businesses in the creative and tech industries. The scheme is designed to be flexible and has created both spaces which orchestrate and choreograph interaction but also those which facilitate social distancing. The design organises the floorplates with the intention of creating smaller communities or neighbourhoods within the wider workplace. Each neighbourhood is centred around a kitchen and social space, with informal breakout and meeting areas, phone booths, meeting rooms, private studios and shared workstations.

Inspired by Brunel’s eponymous station and its heroic train shed the design deploys a limited palette of honestly expressed simple and robust materials intent on giving the space both an industrial and civic quality.

With wellness at the heart of the brief and the design the building services are designed to an exceptional standard, delivering high levels of filtered fresh air throughout. The lighting system is an intelligent white LED system which adjusts the colour temperature of the light throughout the day in line with circadian rhythms.
