Threefold Architects

We believe buildings need to do more for us.

Help us be more productive, happier & inspired.

We consider how people will move, think, behave & feel in & about our buildings.

We partner with people who have a point of view & aspire to achieve remarkable designs.

Founded by friends, we bring together our ideas and our clients’ ambitions to achieve simple, elegant and distinctive solutions.

This alchemy produces a tailored response that is inventive in materials chosen & meticulously detailed.

Our winning schemes for Airbnb HQ & The Crown Estate demonstrate an understanding of the importance of work-life integration & how effective workspaces need to be aligned to how we live now. We are working with Croydon’s Brick by Brick across three schemes for private & affordable homes. We are experts in delivering outstanding projects in sensitive rural locations including National Parks and World Heritage Sites.

Everything we make has a positive footprint.

Promoting EDI within our Studio

Threefold have designated practice EDI Champions who meet monthly to:

• to review and update practice policy
• communicate the practice’s commitments & goals to the team
• plan training and CPD in relation to EDI
• consider equality and inclusion in our designs
• seek opportunities to provide work experience, mentoring & apprenticeships.

We regularly review our recruitment adverts, modifying language to be more inclusive, clearly defining skill sets and encouraging applications from a diverse range of candidates and under represented groups. We are explicit about our equal opportunities policy ensuring all staff receive equal treatment regardless of gender, age, disability, gender reassignment, gender identity, marital or civil partner status, pregnancy or maternity, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation.

We have undertaken a review of our current workforce and have set targets for addressing under representation within our organisation. We are committed to creating an environment in which individual differences and the contributions of our staff are recognised and valued. Our aim is to ensure we have the right culture and processes in place to attract and retain a diverse workforce who will in turn, positively influence the way we work and the buildings we design.

We operate a Grievance Procedure and Anti-Harassment & Bullying Policy to ensure all staff have a recognised channel to raise issues.

Promoting EDI within our Profession

Threefold are signatories of The Mayor’s Fund for London Diversity Pledge which aims to remove the barriers that young Londoners from low income backgrounds face as they set out to build meaningful careers. We are committed to assisting them in their goal to transform outreach, recruitment and progression practices to help employers build a more diverse staff base and create inclusive working cultures.

We are committed to extending our working ethos and sharing our knowledge & skills with disadvantaged young people who are interested in pursuing a career in architecture. We actively pursue these by:

• participating in careers days and creative workshops with local schools • providing work experience at the practice
• acting as mentors for the London Scholarship Programme
• providing a free on-line CV workshop programme

• making financial contributions to professional practice qualifications

Designing Inclusive Environments

London has a rich and vibrant culture and a diverse demographic & socio economic mix making the city a truly exciting place to live and work. We believe that everyone has a right to experience places and spaces that make them feel included, safe, happy and inspired. We ensure that our designs consider all those who will experience them by:

• ensuring our team receive regular training on how to design inclusively
• actively engage with the stakeholders and communities we design for
• working in partnership with specialist community engagement consultants
• working in collaboration with specialist technical compliance experts
• review our designs regularly to comply & exceed inclusive design standards.
