Headley Court North and South are located in Fieldway, New Addington. The scheme comprises 25 units of a mix of three and one bedroom affordable rent flats and are split between two steeply sloping sites which straddle Headley Drive.
The buildings are conceived as a pair, each with a taller central knuckle located at the lowest part of each site and two wings which frame a recessed courtyard garden. The dynamic form enables all units to be dual aspect with far reaching views of the city and greenbelt without overlooking neighbouring properties.
The building form and landscaping proposals draw inspiration from the surrounding context. A palette of multi toned red, pink and buff bricks reference the existing colour mix of red brick and soft muted tones of pebble dash and render. Pigmented concrete window reveals echo the slim concrete entrance porches which are a common feature of the surrounding buildings.
The landscape approach references the ancient woodlands close by, which border the green belt. Raised planters frame the footprint of the building whilst mixed hedgerows and larger woodland glades are introduced to create a buffer from the road and promote biodiversity. Improved amenity spaces include widened pedestrian routes, new lighting & seating and new play spaces to both sites.
